HERB STROBINO'S interest in art began during his grade school years doing amature sketches of comic strip characters and black and white portraits of family, friends and family pets. During his high school years he doubled up his courses in art which were helpful in learning the application of most mediums. Many of his high school pieces qualified for exhibiting in local and state competition resulting in occasional blue ribbon awards.
After high school and serving 2 years in The U.S. Navy, in World War II, he began his art career doing reproductions for silk screening which later directed him to painting textile print designs for mens tie silks. In the years following he continued his design career supplying the dress silks market and later diversified into designing for other phases of textile as well as wall coverings and laminated table tops.
Moving to Carrollton, Georgia in 1957, at the age of 30, He was employed as Art Direct and Superintendent of Engraving for a prominent textile print firm (Printed Fabrics Corp.) but also continued his design profession for the drapery, bedspread and upholstery markets on a free lance basis. His textile art can be found both nationally and internationally but nationally it can be seen in famous vacation resorts such as Yellowstone Natrional Park Hotels and Lodges, Disney World Cruise Liners, Las Vegas Luxor Hotel, Branson Box Car Willie Motel and other leading chains like Marriott, Sheraton, Hilton and Renaissance.
After his 45 year employment and retirement in 2000 he continues his upholstery print designing and his visual arts as a hobbiest. He works in most mediums but prefers using water colors and acrylics and excels in the application of shading and textured techniques, often implementing the use of airbrush.
Herb is a native of Little Falls, N.J., there receiving his education and re-located in Carrollton, Ga. where he now resides with his wife June. They have 5 children, 15 grand children and 17 great grand children. They are extended members of First Christian Church in Carrollton where Herb has served as both Deacon and Elder.
